Abbey Overland joined the Alpine Group with an emphasis on defense and national security policy issues. She brings with her Capitol Hill, Pentagon and private sector lobbying experience. While on Capitol Hill, she served as the Military Legislative Assistant (MLA) to Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA), a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, where she handled her defense, veterans’ affairs and foreign affairs portfolio. As MLA to Senator Ernst, Abbey worked with key stakeholders to ensure Senator Ernst’s defense priorities were reflected in the National Defense Authorization Act every year.

Following her time with Senator Ernst, Abbey transitioned to the Pentagon where she held a variety of roles within the Office of the Secretary of Defense. Notably, Abbey served as the primary congressional advisor to the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, the entity driving the Department’s science and technology strategy. Abbey was also responsible for building congressional support for the legislative proposal which led to the establishment of the United States Space Force via the 2020 National Defense Authorization Act. Lastly, drawing on her Senate relationships and experience, Abbey played a key role in advising several Department of Defense nominees on the Senate confirmation process.

Before joining the Alpine Group, Abbey worked as an in-house lobbyist at BWX Technologies and Palantir. While at Palantir, Abbey served as the lead lobbyist representing Palantir’s defense equities on Capitol Hill. In addition to being the principal advisor on defense policy, she also helped launch Palantir’s Political Action Committee and craft their political giving strategy.

Abbey received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and International Studies from the University of Denver.
